I first started looking into the ingredients included in taco seasoning when my husband was diagnosed with Celiac six years ago. It was then that I realized how much salt was in most recipes as well as how often they included wheat!
I haven’t used store bought taco seasoning since so I really have no idea if things have gotten better but even if they had I would still stick with my own recipe because it tastes good and I love that I can adjust the heat level to our preferences.
In the last half a year we’ve actually gotten away from eating ground beef and have exchanged our regular beef tacos for brown lentil tacos instead and this seasoning works great with lentils as well.
I like to mix up a big batch and then I don’t have to make it each time we have tacos. Feel free to double or halve this recipe as you desire. For about one pound of ground beef or one cup of dry lentils I use about three tablespoons of the mix.
It’s been a few years since I started using this seasoning mix and just now I am starting to think about all the other spice recipes I could make.
